lives

Our immersive service trips offer the perfect opportunity to travel abroad, experience a new culture, and forge lifelong friendships—all while making a meaningful impact on a community in need. These trips are designed to give high school students a unique chance to discover themselves and uncover their passions through service, connection, and immersion in a completely different environment.

Through this experience, students develop a profound awareness of their privilege and make a personal commitment to using that privilege to drive positive change in the world through the power of giving.

These service trips cultivate empathy and understanding by connecting young adults with the lived realities of others. In just one week, participants step out of their comfort zones and work together toward a shared goal—building a school or playground for primary school children. The journey is filled with joy, laughter, and gratitude as they witness a new reality unfold and see the tangible impact of their efforts.

The World
Changer Journey

01
APPLICATION
To secure your spot as a World Changer, an application, short essay and deposit are required. Once our staff approves your application, we will get you started on your World Changer journey!
02
FUNDRAISING
Our World Changers make up a large portion of our donor community. Yes, you are a young philanthropist! Each student group funds 50% of the school and/or playground and supports the majority of our in-country programming. That means significant funding for our teacher training, parent programs and distribution of learning materials. Majority of participants choose to fundraise and our staff will guide you through this process to help you reach your fundraising goal!
03
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!
Prior to departure, World Changers participate in pre-trip seminars. You can expect these sessions to cover fundraising strategies, the history and culture of Panama, Guatemala or Honduras and Global Citizenship. During this process, you will get to know our staff and the other students all while feeling well-informed about the experience you are about to embark on.
04
THE TRIP

Students spend their week abroad participating in the final stages of the school construction. Throughout the week, students begin to open their eyes and minds to the deep and complicated causes underlying poverty. In addition to finishing building the school, students get to partake in cultural immersion activities such as shadowing a family in the community and outdoor adventures! You can also expect to form genuine relationships among your peers and the children in the community!

05
RETURN HOME TRANSFORMED
Students return home with incredible stories, new lifelong friendships and a renewed sense of appreciation for their own education. Many are even inspired to take action within their own communities and are often motivated to continue their passion for service and international development throughout the next stages of life, including their future careers.

“The children I met were incredible. They were so kind even as I struggled through my Spanish. I made so many amazing friendships in Panama with the kids and my fellow School the World team members. This is an experience I will never forget. I am eternally grateful to have gotten the opportunity to go on this trip.”
