Who we are

Mission

School the World is a community-driven nonprofit committed to solving extreme poverty through the power of education.

Vision

To provide quality education to children in remote corners of the world by collaborating with communities, mayors, local governments, and other nonprofits.

Our Values

Our Story

I started School the World because I felt there was a real need for quality education in rural communities across the world. All I had was a clear vision of how I wanted to shape this organization. But it’s the wonderful people I’ve met along the way that have helped me build School The World from the ground up.

From the very beginning, I relied on local talent and listened more than I spoke. By learning from and partnering with local NGOs, governments, and the people of the community, we’ve been able to grow and expand at an exponential rate.

Founder & CEO

Kate Curran

Kate founded School the World in 2009 to find healing after a personal loss by devoting her life to service. Her goal is to fight extreme poverty at its roots by bringing education to the world’s poorest children in the world. Connecting with people comes naturally to her, and she lays a strong emphasis on collaboration and teamwork. Prior to School the World, she was an attorney and executive at General Electric Company. She grew up in Bridgeport, CT and enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her large extended family.

Chief Operating Officer

Natalie Hambor

A natural problem-solver, Natalie has a background in entrepreneurship, finance and marketing as well as a strong passion for global service travel. Natalie joined School the World in 2015 and managed the Student & Corporate Service Program, growing it to what it is today. Now, as our Chief Operating Officer, Natalie oversees all international and domestic program operations, administration, HR and finance. Originally from Connecticut, she’s been a Bostonian transplant since her days at Northeastern University – Go Huskies!

Director of M&E and Director of Programs, Guatemala

Bianca Argueta

Bianca has an easy demeanor and a can-do attitude. She enjoys engaging with people from diverse backgrounds, and researching the true impact of our work on rural communities. Bianca has a master’s degree in monitoring, evaluation, and educational research. She gained her experience while working in projects funded by USAID and with some Guatemalan Universities. She is also an educational researcher who has been published in university magazines. She is passionate about education, which she considers the way to achieve a better quality of life.

Regional Director of Service & Special Projects

Ana Joya

Ana’s background in Psychology aided in her love of people. From her first positions at AFS and World Renew, she developed skills in connecting people all over the world and promoting cultural exchange. During her time at School the World, Ana has helped in many capacities. To name a few, expanding and managing programs in Honduras, Guatemala and Panama and helping manage our Student Service Program. Ana helps with the service groups by leading trips and managing all in-country trip logistics. She loves to help our World Changers and locals connect and seamlessly work with one another.
