Our Story
“I started School the World because I felt there was a real need for quality education in rural communities across the world. All I had was a clear vision of how I wanted to shape this organization. But it’s the wonderful people I’ve met along the way who have helped me build STW from the ground up.
From the very beginning, I relied on local talent and listened more than I spoke. By learning from and partnering with local NGOs, governments, and the people of the community, we’ve been able to grow and expand at an exponential rate.
I wanted to immerse myself in every community, every village we worked in. I sought collaboration and dedication from my colleagues, local governments, parents, teachers, mayors, and the larger community. I received (and to this day, continue to receive) their unconditional support and that’s what has helped us achieve our goal of penetrating into some of the most remote communities in the world.
During the initial years, our goal was to reduce the school dropout rate, and we were able to achieve this goal within three years as the dropout rate went from 60% to 25%. That’s when our overall goal shifted to solving extreme poverty through the power of education. We believe that education is the only way to solve systemic inequality by working with local governments and local talent.
Speaking of local talent, School the World employees care about our mission deeply and want the organization to grow. They want our philosophy adopted and implemented in other countries and communities because they’ve seen the positive impact of our work directly. That to me is extremely empowering and motivating to do more for communities and people in need of quality education.”
