School the World Staff & Summer Interns 2026

Behind the Mission: Meet Our 2026 Summer Interns

Every summer, School the World welcomes a new group of talented interns who bring fresh ideas, unique perspectives, and a shared commitment to educational equity. These students and recent graduates become an important part of our team, contributing their skills across departments while gaining valuable experience in the nonprofit sector.

This year, we are excited to welcome four exceptional interns whose diverse academic backgrounds and personal connections to School the World are already making a meaningful impact on our work in Guatemala and Honduras.

Sarah Preston

Sarah is a  rising sophomore at Villanova University studying Clinical Psychology and Philosophy, and who is no stranger to School the World. Having traveled with the organization three times as a student and later serving as a Student Ambassador throughout high school, she has seen firsthand the impact that educational opportunities can have on communities. This summer, Sarah is supporting School the World’s nonprofit operations while also helping tell the stories behind our work. Through blog posts, articles, and social media content, she helps keep our supporters informed about recent milestones and the ongoing impact of our programs.

Laura Clarke

Laura brings both academic expertise and a passion for education to her role as an intern. After earning her undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Santa Clara University, she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Philosophy at Boston College. Laura’s interest in educational equity was sparked through her undergraduate experiences with education-focused nonprofits. At School the World, she supports a wide range of projects, including research, operations, and organizational development. Her work helps strengthen the systems that allow our programs to grow and reach more students.

Thomas Laz

Thomas, a student at Boston University studying Applied Mathematics and Public Health, was drawn to School the World by the opportunity to apply data analysis in a setting where the results can directly benefit communities. As part of our growing Measurement and Evaluation efforts, Thomas assists with data collection, cleaning, and analysis. He also contributes to mathematical modeling projects that help us better understand and measure the effectiveness of our programs in Guatemala and Honduras. His work helps ensure that School the World’s decisions are informed by strong data and evidence.

Serina Ohyama-Sukotjo

Serina’s connection to School the World began long before this student. A student at Northeastern University studying Health Science and Global Health, Serina traveled with School the World twice as a student and continued her involvement as a Student Ambassador and president of her high school’s School the World chapter. This summer, Serina is supporting several areas of the organization, including gala auction procurement, finance projects, and social media outreach. Through these experiences, she is building skills in project management, communications, and nonprofit operations while continuing to support a mission she has been passionate about for years.

Internships at School the World are designed to be hands-on and impactful. Throughout the summer, interns contribute to meaningful projects that support donor engagement, program development, data analysis, storytelling, and organizational growth. At the same time, they gain valuable professional experience, mentorship, and a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities surrounding global education. For many interns, the experience also provides a unique opportunity to see how a nonprofit organization operates behind the scenes and how every department, from fundraising and communications to finance and evaluation, plays a role in creating lasting change.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, creativity, and enthusiasm our interns bring to School the World each year. Their contributions strengthen our organization, expand our capacity, and help us continue our mission of breaking the cycle of extreme poverty through the power of education.
