School the World Fall 2025 Interns

Behind the Scenes: Meet Our Fall 2025 Interns

At School the World, we believe in the power of young people to drive change. Each semester, we welcome a new cohort of college interns who bring curiosity, compassion, and a desire to make a difference. Whether they’re organizing fundraising events, exploring education data systems, supporting communications, or helping us build community partnerships, our interns are integral to advancing our mission to end extreme poverty through the power of education.

This fall, we had the pleasure of working with four remarkable student interns — each with a unique background and a shared commitment to impact.

Katrina Fuentes, from Wildwood, New Jersey, is a Biology and Theology major at Boston College. While she began her academic journey in STEM, Katrina discovered a passion for nonprofit work and joined School the World to explore how nonprofits operate and mobilize support. She’s played a key role in preparing for our annual Gala, from managing logistics to community outreach. “Being behind the scenes of such a big event has taught me how strategy and heart come together to make impact happen,” she says.

Mona Mohtadi, a Computer Science student from Suffolk University and Chelsea, Massachusetts, was drawn to the intersection of education and technology. She joined our team to support the pilot implementation of Moodle, an open-source learning platform, helping us track attendance, organize users, and build more effective data systems. “I wanted to see how tech could empower, not limit, access to education,” Mona shared.

Janelle Lourdes, from Manila, Philippines, studies Operations & Supply Chain Management and Information Systems at Boston University. Having participated in youth-led service initiatives back home, Janelle saw School the World as a natural next step to deepen her impact. This fall, she focused on researching potential partnerships and helping organize information sessions to engage new participants and supporters.

Sophie Palmer, a senior at Suffolk University majoring in Global Cultural Studies and Global Business, is originally from Milford, New Hampshire. Inspired by her early travel experiences and a family deeply invested in education, Sophie was drawn to School the World’s community-based approach in Central America. She began her internship focused on nonprofit operations and later transitioned into a communications role. “I’ve learned so much about organic, paid, and email marketing that I never would have grasped just by reading a textbook,” she reflects. Sophie graduates this December and credits her internship with giving her practical, hands-on experience in international nonprofit work.

From our Boston office to remote project work, interns like Katrina, Mona, Janelle, and Sophie contribute across nearly every corner of our organization — from Service Learning to Marketing, Fundraising, Finance, and Measurement & Evaluation. In return, they gain mentorship, real-world nonprofit experience, and a front-row seat to how education transforms lives.

Their dedication reminds us just how powerful it is when young people choose to use their skills for good. We’re deeply grateful for their insight, creativity, and commitment.
