Creating Lasting Change
In the last 9 years, we have built 60 schools, enrolled 7,022 students, and trained 255 teachers. We create lasting change by securing commitment from local government, deeply engaging parents and building safe places to learn and thrive.

Raising Future Leaders
Every year, hundreds of U.S. high school students travel abroad to our schools in Guatemala by participating in our Student Service Learning Program. These young leaders experience first hand what life is like on the other side of the border and learn how they can play a role in solving international education challenges.

Power of Play: Education beyond the Classrooms
Play is an important part of the learning experience. In most areas, children go to work before and after school with little time for play. While developing literacy skills is a cornerstone to our education, we believe giving our students a safe place to discover, imagine and explore is equally important.

MEET BEAUJENA:
This year marked Beaujena’s second trip to Guatemala with us and she is already counting down the days until her third trip in 2019! She cares deeply about our mission and truly embodies every aspect of a World Changer.

“February marked my second trip with School the World. The culture of Guatemala and the incredible energy the whole country gives off made me fall in love last year, and I was so excited to return. Seeing all the kids with the biggest smiles on their faces as we entered the community was like a foreshadow of the amazing week that lay ahead. One of the things that struck me the most during both of my experiences was how genuinely positive and appreciative members of the communities are. They have so little but they still appreciate and make use of everything they own. Everyone in the community is united like family. It's one of the more humbling aspects of this trip. Many people don't realize, myself included, how transformational this trip truly is. Seeing another culture, one that's so different from ours, is really eye opening. Whatever reasons a student comes on this trip for, whether its for their college resume or to travel to a new country, everyone leaves with a whole different perspective on the life they led before. I realized by the time the dedication ceremony rolled around that not only are we impacting the kids; they're leaving an immense impact on us. All in all this trip was so inspirational, motivating, and transforming for all who attend.” -Beaujena, Winchester High School
